{ Do Unto Others… }

Untoothers Next line from the song ‘pray’. Brushwork by Rhonna Farrer.

I’ve been busy re-doing some of the early scrapbook pages from Jacob’s album. The ones that I’ve redone so far I’m trying to keep simple enough that I can use them in the new slide show that I’ve started putting together with the song ‘Held’ by Natalie Grant. It’s tough to read journaling or song lyrics when watching a slideshow so I want at least a few scrapbook pages that are pretty much all about the photos to make the slideshow a little more personal than just one photo after another, if that makes any sense. Can’t seem to get happy with the 1st one but it’s already a hundred times better than how I’d originally scrapped the same photos. Would love any suggestions on how it could be better.

{ May Your Weakness }

Pride_1 One of my favorite lines from the song (Pray by Kendall Payne). Notebook paper and font both by Tia Bennet at Designer Digitals.

Yay for Friday! So ready for a weekend. Tons to do around the house. Baptism service for my friend Jill’s new little Jordynn Sunday morning. Can’t wait to take tons of pictures of her beautiful children! Hopin’ to find time for some scrappin’ and creativity. Been on a roll scrapping my Mexico trip from December so I’d like to keep going on those. It would be great to have a whole travel album to put in a gallery as an example for the digi-scrap for hire thing. I’ve also been working on a new slide show of baby Jacob but have gotten side-tracked re-scrapping some of the early LOs I’d done. Something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. March 11th is his 2nd heavenly birthday and I would love to have the new slide show finished and his website updated with the LOs I’ve done this past year posted to the gallery there. Right now though I’ve gotta head into the office for the day.

Oh, and Nancy, I’ve got lots to say about the commercial use thing as far as kits go but I’ll have to do that in my next post. I  do have some designs of my own and actually hope to use the new website to sell those since there’s not really enough to justify selling in someone else’s store but for the most part I’ll be using other designer’s kits but strictly following their terms of use. Have a few designers who have given me permission to use their items for this type of business (which I can assure you will not be a big scale business by any means) and if there are any kit designers reading this who would allow this type of use of their kits I’d love to hear from you. I hope to promote the designers that I use as much as possible by finding clients that will allow me to post their finished LOs in galleries and submitting to magazines, etc. I’d also love to offer some teaching of digital scrapbooking locally so obviously I would strongly promote those designers that I tend to scrap with myself. Did I say I’d answer in the next post? LOL Okay, I do have more to say about it but I’ve GOT to get off to work.

Happy Friday everyone! :)

{ The Brochure }

Brochure_4 This is what I’ve come up with so far for my brochures. I think what I have here is what I’m going to use as the main logo. I added the lighter shade of green around the circle edge because I really liked that in #2. The more I played with the logo in designing the brochure I just wasn’t happy with the balance of the fontwork at the top and flower at the bottom edge. I think it was just a matter of the white balance within the circle and one of those quirky taste things on my part but I figure since the business is all about design and taste I probably shouldn’t have a logo that doesn’t really fit me perfectly (if that’s possible-LOL). I decided (for now) to try brochures in a 4 x 8 format and I think I’ll have a bunch printed up from WHCC so that they would also serve as a print quality representation of a finished printed product. I figure that size can easily be mailed out and it gives me a little more room than a 4 x 6 size to fit as much information as I can on the front. Then I figure on the back I could have labels printed with the contact information such as my name, mailing address, phone # and e-mail. The most important thing will be the website address which I put along the bottom on the front because that’s where I’ll have a gallery of my current LOs, pricing information, copyright information as far as photos that customers would be sending for me to scrap as well as my policy on the supplies that I would use to create their pages. I intend to follow the TOU of each designer very carefully so I want to include some information about that somehow in a way that will make sense to someone not familiar with the digital scrapbooking community. I’d also like to start submitting again to the magazines which typically involves getting nice little checks in the mail from time to time. (gotta love that) So I’m thinking as an incentive for customers to allow me to submit LOs I create for them that, if published, I would give them a discount on a future project. Anyway, just thinking out loud but I’d like to do something like that and have that information posted at the website as well. So many ideas swimming in my head. :) Would love to hear any of your thoughts on them and what you think of the brochure so far. Thanks Lauren for the advice on the upscale children’s boutique thing. I’ve got a couple places in mind in our town and I’m sure there are MANY others in the town that I work in a few days a week. :)

{ It’s Wednesday }

Character

Yet another line from the song ‘pray’ by Kendall Payne. So many great ones. Can’t wait to do a page with these for my art journal once I have them all finished. Notebook paper on this one is by Amy Martin from Modscraps and the doodle flower is by Angie Briggs from her freebies at Scrap Artist. Font is TIA Casual – Designer Digitals (my new favorite).

Thanks so much for all the advice on the logos. Sounds like #5 is the front runner from the votes so far and I think it’s probably my favorite of them too. May play with the flower opacity a bit as Lisa suggested. I’m thinking that may help the name stand out a bit more. We’ll see how that looks and then the dots I’ve got a few ideas for including that in the design of the website but maybe not in the logo ‘cuz I really don’t want it to get too busy. I think when it comes to a logo, simple is usually best and I really would like to incorporate the flower. And CandyLou, I’m taking customers any time but I can’t imagine you’d ever need to pay someone to scrap your photos. I have many of your LOs in my BOS at 2 Peas. :) I think the biggest challenge in starting this up is getting the word out somehow to people who don’t already scrap. Right now my blog and my galleries are viewed by people who already have the time, talent and desire to create pages of their own. Now to find those mom’s or photographers out there who would rather pay someone else to create pages for them than learn the programs, purchase the software and invest the time to do it themselves. I think I’m gonna have to add a printed brochure of some sort and business cards to the list of things I’ll need to get some business coming in. I was originally thinking the website and a more global approach to finding customers would be the best route but now I’m starting to think more locally. Hopin’ to work on the website and brochure this afternoon and then tonight the digital housewives are scrapping at MindyMae’s house. :)

{ Castles and Crowns }

Crowns

The next phrase from Kendall Payne’s song ‘pray’. Love the message of this one even though I’ve had a fascination with castles for as long as I can remember. (doodles by Kim Christensen at SBB and the font is pendulum which is the same as I used for my logo – sorry I didn’t get that info to ya sooner Gina – LOVE this font and it seemed very ‘castle & crown’-ish) :)

Happy Valentine’s day everyone! :)
